How crazy to participate in two link-ups on one day! I guess you could say one thing I’m into is linking into conversations with other friends this month. Totally true.
Imperfect Prose. As a writer, I want to cultivate a creative praxis that keeps me fresh, stretching and igniting my imagination. I’ve discovered Emily Wierenga’s weekly Imperfect Prose prompts do just that for me. The last four weeks I’ve taken each prompt as an invitation to free write in my journal. Sometimes in one sitting, most often over days, the theme will come to life in my heart and onto the page. Sometimes it becomes a post for the link-up (like CREATE, MOTHER and today’s LIGHT). Sometimes it simply prompted me to consider the role of ENCOURAGEment in my life and how I embody that for others. This has already become a life-giving practice for me, so I think it’s a keeper!
Books. Always something I’m into! Right now I’m intrigued by books exploring faith and violence. I just added these to my collection: Jesus & The Spiral of Violence: Popular Jewish Resistance in Roman Palestine by Richard Horsely and Living Gently in a Violent World: The Prophetic Witness of Weakness by Stanley Hauerwas & Jean Vanier.
I also finally got two books by Brian Zahnd, one on forgiveness called Unconditional and one on salvific beauty. Looking forward to reading both over the coming months!
And I just added two books to the library of heroes for my kids: Mandela by Kadir Nelson and Desmond and the Very Mean Word by Desmond Tutu. Keeping my kids surrounded by bigger stories of strength, deliverance and how to be in this world.
Twitter. I have three favorite follows to share. Jonathon Martin (@renovatuspastor), Brian Zahnd (@BrianZahnd) and Eugene Cho (@EugeneCho). These men put out substantive tweets that are thought provoking. I appreciate that – brief, thoughtful, challenging. It’s amazing to see how much truth can actually fit into 140 characters!
So those are just a few things I’m into as January comes to a close.
Linking up with Hopeful Leigh today – join us!
I’m so impressed with your reading list. Those books are not for the weak! You amaze me, Kelley. Also love your idea of including Twitter recommendations.
Thanks for linking up!
